We carried out an investigation into how germs are transferred if we do not wash our hands properly.
We put Vaseline and red glitter onto three children’s hands to represent germs.
One child washed their hands well using soap and warm water.
Another child just rinsed their hands with cold water, but did not use soap.
The third child didn’t wash their hands at all.
Each child then went along a line of children, shaking hands with each child.
We were able to observe how many germs were transferred by each subject.
The child who had washed their hands well using soap and water transferred almost no germs, while the other two children transferred many germs as they touched the other children’s hands.
